Kajima Properties’ Workspace team has secured planning approval for a new external staircase at Warehouse K, a move set to significantly improve pedestrian access and enhance visibility for the building’s restaurants and businesses.

The current arrangement requires pedestrians to access a high-level pedestrian bridge, which starts from Custom House station and leads directly to the entrance of the ExCel Centre. This route effectively by-passes the ground floor level of Warehouse K. The new staircase will provide a direct link to the ground level upon exiting the station, making it even more convenient for people to access the fantastic businesses at Warehouse K, as well as the Passport Office, which is located in the building.

The design complements the industrial aesthetic of Warehouse K and its surrounds. It includes a wide landing at bridge level that will provide a visual connection to the building for passing pedestrians. This enhancement is designed to improve the visitor experience while also providing local businesses with increased opportunities to thrive from the additional footfall.

Warehouse K is a stunning Grade II-listed former tobacco warehouse in London’s Docklands. It’s a significant part of the local landscape with 108,479 sq ft of premium office, leisure, and industrial space across a 1.84-acre site. Positioned next to the ExCel Centre and just a short walk from the new City Hall, Warehouse K enjoys excellent connectivity with Customs House station and the Elizabeth Line, providing a quick 10-minute journey to Liverpool Street.
